Over the course of the 20th century, society has witnessed an evolution in interest that captures promising and effective solutions for the nation’s energy needs. Through the century, cities, states and corporations are learning the advantages of natural gas for fleets and urban transportation.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is gaining more ground in America as a clean, affordable, American alternative to gasoline and diesel fuel. As the world scales up of natural gas as a transportation fuel, this will create much needed jobs and businesses to help move the economy forward.

With the increased use of natural gas as a viable transportation fuel, Lively Technical Center will be incorporating its certified CNG conversion into the Automotive Program Curriculum. Students will be taught how to install the conversion kit and service CNG vehicles as natural gas is on the rise across the nation.

This alternative fuel is also being applied to Leon County school buses. Superintendent Jackie Pons would like to purchase 30 more CNG buses and will make a proposal to the school board members on July 1st. “These buses will save the district anywhere from $200,000 to $250,000 a year,” said Superintendent Jackie Pons. There are currently 14 Leon county school buses that operate on CNG fuel.
