Hybrid Courses (On-Line Courses)
A hybrid course is a blend of 51% face-to-face traditional instruction and 49% online learning instruction. In a hybrid course, the 49% part of the learning is online and as a result, the amount of classroom seat-time is reduced. Hybrid courses are also referred to as “blended”.
A hybrid course allows instructors to teach using a variety of online and teaching strategies, which make it possible to achieve the course goals and objectives. Using the hybrid format allows instructors to incorporate new types of interactive and independent learning activities that are not possible in traditional courses.
Benefits of Hybrid Courses
- Instructors are able to get to know students better since they communicate both online and face-to-face.
- Hybrid helps to increase the instructor-student and student-student connectivity and to build relationships.
- Integration of hybrid courses activities allow more effective use of traditional class time.
- Students who rarely take part in class discussions are more likely to participate online.
- Helps to increase student writing and computer skills.
- Encourages self-directed learning, time management, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Everything is clearly laid out for all students.
- Limited on-campus attendance, which means more programs are more accessible to more students, which is perhaps the biggest benefit of all.
The enrollment option for traditional Hybrid programs is designed to serve training needs of non-traditional adult and vocational students. These students are unable to attend every day classes face-to-face due to employment and other commitments. Course material will be made available to students by traditional face-to-face(51%) and Hybrid On-Line(49%) will be provided personalized instruction, support and evaluation to students through a variety of methods including e-mail, online message boards and telephone. This flexible learning schedule enables eligible students to maintain new technical skills through the same qualitative instructional using available technology.
Policies and Procedures for Hybrid courses will be given to students during orientation with instructor. All students are required to enroll full-time. Students are expected to progress at the same minimum rate as students who attend class on site.
