Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)

Who must take the TABE Test?

All students, enrolled in 450 hours or more,  are required to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and meet minimum state standards in order to earn a certificate upon completion of a technical program. This is a general admissions assessment used by technical/career schools across the state that tests levels in reading, math, and language skills.

Are there any exemptions from taking the TABE?

If a student present official documentation of having received an associates or bachelors degree from an accredited institution or provide proof of acceptable forms of assessment scores (such as ACT, WBST, SAT, MAPS, CPT or ASSET scores), may be exempt from taking the TABE test.

What is covered on the TABE?

The TABE assessment consists of four sub-tests: reading, math computation, applied mathematics, and language. It is an objective test which provides a grade level score. This score is used to determine which programs you are currently prepared to enter, or to identify areas in which you may need to improve.
