Tallahassee, FL – Wednesday, August 28, 2024

Lively Technical College (LTC) proudly hosted Senator Corey Simon on campus to witness the implementation of the Florida Ready to Work program. A cornerstone of LTC’s curriculum across its 26 programs, this initiative equips students with essential job skills, preparing them for the workforce. During his visit, Senator Simon engaged with students, gaining valuable insights into how the program is shaping workforce readiness.

“Employers tell me every day that they are looking for candidates that not only have technical skills, but soft skills as well,” said Senator Corey Simon. “Florida Ready to Work is transforming the lives of students at Lively Technical College by equipping them with the foundational soft skills that directly align with industry needs, paving the way for career success and a brighter future. I applaud the efforts of the team at Lively Technical College who are committed to helping students become the full package.”

Spearheaded by Governor DeSantis, the Florida Ready to Work program encompasses training modules and assessments that evaluate and enhance students’ job-ready capabilities. LTC extends this opportunity beyond its student body, collaborating with regional business partners to educate current employees on crucial soft skills.

BJ Van Camp, Director of Lively Technical College, expressed, “Having Senator Simon on campus allowed us to demonstrate how policy translates into real-world impact. Our students, diligently honing their skills in the shadow of the Capitol, are laying a strong foundation for high-earning careers. The Florida Ready to Work program enables us to collaborate with local businesses, ensuring the future workforce is prepared for tangible success.”

Recent statistics underscore the program’s significance: while 92% of Florida employers plan to hire, 81% report that a lack of key employability skills poses a serious threat to their operations. Through strategic alliances, LTC and local organizations are bolstering the community’s workforce. The program places a strong emphasis on employability, soft skills, and digital proficiency, empowering individuals and teams to maintain a competitive edge. Local business leaders have identified soft skills such as communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving as top priorities. This initiative not only gives LTC students a competitive advantage in an evolving job market but also offers valuable continuing education for regional partners.
