The Captain Campbell Miller Scholarship
Lively Technical College is pleased to announce the establishment and funding of the Captain Campbell Miller Scholarship. The scholarship is being funded by the generous donation from Bill and Laurie McCort to honor Laurie’s late father, CPT Campbell Miller, U.S. Army Air Corps.
The scholarship will fund the tuition for a qualified student in Lively Tech’s Aviation Mechanic Programs. The Aviation Mechanics programs are designed to prepare students for employment or advanced training in the commercial and general aviation industry. Instruction is designed to prepare students for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) license examinations for Airframe and Mechanics ratings.
Laurie McCort shared about her family’s scholarship donation: “My father, CPT Campbell, volunteered for the Army Air Corps and was assigned to B-17 pilot training. He was only 21 years old when he flew in WWII. My father thought the B-17 airplane was a superior aircraft, but he always credited his mechanics with keeping his crew alive. It only makes sense that we should honor his memory by assisting the mechanics in training.”
Campbell served two combat tours, volunteering for the second with the Eighth Air Force at Molesworth Air Base in England in the 303rd Bomb Group, 358th Squadron. His first combat tour included 30 credited missions, and his second had 26 credited missions. He completed his service as a Captain and trained pilots after returning to the US after the war.
Lively Technical College Director BJ Van Camp said, “We are extremely grateful to the McCort family, Laurie and Bill, for their desire to honor Laurie’s father through the Captain Campbell Miller Scholarship funding. This scholarship will allow qualified students in the Lively Tech Aviation Mechanics Programs to continue to serve those who fly all types of aircraft.”
