WOW – Worlds Of Work
WOW – Worlds Of Work
The 2nd annual North Florida Worlds Of Work (WOW) Career Expo is set for October 24-25, 2024, expecting to host 3,000 9th-grade students from Leon, Gadsden, Wakulla, Franklin, and Jefferson counties. Over 132 community partners will participate, showcasing a variety of career sectors.
Corrie Melton from the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce highlighted the event’s significance, stating it is built on evidence-based practices that positively influence students’ educational paths. The expo aims to broaden students’ understanding of the workforce, moving beyond their limited perceptions shaped by family and media.
Attendees will explore ten career sectors, including Public Safety, Technology, Healthcare, and Manufacturing, among others. Melton emphasized the crucial role of employer involvement in shaping future workforce experiences, encouraging businesses to engage through classroom visits, internships, and job opportunities.
Last year, 9th-grade students from across the Capital Region attended the expo. Additionally, hundreds of 10th to 12th graders participated in the WOW Varsity event in the afternoon, either independently or with their parents. The WOW event received positive feedback from students, parents, and educators, prompting improvements for this year’s event. For more information, visit North Florida Worlds of Work.
