Program Overview

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Architecture and Construction career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher order reasoning and problem solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Architecture and Construction career cluster. The content includes but is not limited to reading construction documents, understanding building codes in the pipe trades, plumbing pipe cutting and joining skills and plumbing layout and installation.

This program is eligible for fulltime enrollment.

Program Admission Requirements

AGE: 16 years or older

BASIC SKILLS LEVEL: Computations (Math) 9.0 & Communications (Reading & Language Arts) 9.0

Employment Opportunities

The purpose of the programs is to prepare students for employment or advanced training in a variety of pipe occupations to include pipelayers, plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic plumbing skills.
  • Cut and join pipes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of plumbing codes.
  • Read and interpret construction documents and specifications.
  • Layout and coordinate a job.
  • Layout and install, discuss and simulate, the installation of the first rough (underground).
  • Layout and install, discuss and simulate, the installation of the second rough (first floor & above).
  • Layout and install, discuss and simulate trim out plumbing.
  • Explain the importance of employability and entrepreneurship skills.
  • Commercial Plumber
  • Discuss and simulate the installation of water heating and circulating systems.
  • Discuss and simulate the installation of interceptors and separators.
  • Discuss and simulate the installation of a storm drainage system.
  • Explain the principles of backflow cross and connection control.
